Quick, EASY, 2-step Brows

Who the heck has an extra 15 minutes to do their brows every morning? Because after the birth of my son more than 10 years ago, every second counted. And honestly, I haven't become any more interested in spending an hour on my makeup since then.

If I'm getting ready for a fancy event, absolutely. I'll take my time, enjoy the process and put in the extra effort. But on an average weekday morning? The quicker, the better. I've got other things to do, and perfectly sculpted brows aren't going to make the to-do list any shorter. When it comes to easy everyday makeup, I'm all about techniques that make a difference without adding unnecessary steps to my daily routine.

As someone who grew up in the '90s, I also have a little history with over-plucking my eyebrows. And, to absolutely no one's surprise, those little hairs never got the memo that they were supposed to grow back. So here we are, more than a few decades later, still dealing with the consequences of our questionable beauty decisions.

But, brows make a difference. They frame your face, add definition and help you look put together. Sparse or over-plucked brows can leave you wondering how to fill them in without making them look too heavy or drawn on. I also don’t want to spend 15 minutes trying to recreate two matching eyebrows every morning. I'm not looking for perfection. I'm looking for quick, natural-looking brow makeup that lets me get on with the day.

Here's my simple, everyday brow routine. It takes just a few minutes, requires two products (both of which are also VERY affordable) and doesn't involve trying to draw on an entirely new set of eyebrows.

My Quick, Everyday Brow Routine

Step 1: Back-comb your brows.

Using the Maybelline Super Lock Brow Glue, brush your brow hairs in the opposite direction of their natural growth. This helps separate and define the hairs you already have, making it easier to see their natural shape and identify any sparse areas that need a little extra attention.

Step 2: Brush your brows up and out.

Next, using the same Maybelline product, brush the hairs back into place, directing them upward and outward. The hairs at the inner portion of your brows naturally tend to grow more vertically, so brush those straight up rather than forcing every hair in the same direction. Working with your natural hair growth makes the finished brow look more believable and less like you've drawn two identical shapes onto your forehead.

Step 3: Fill in the gaps.

Using the Revolution Instant Brow Hair Pen, add small, hair-like strokes wherever you have sparse areas. Follow the direction of your natural hair growth: upward and outward through most of the brow, and straight up at the inner portion.

One important tip: You'll notice that the pen's bristles are angled. Make sure you're holding the pen so the bristles sit flush against your skin. This helps you get better contact and create finer, more controlled strokes that resemble actual brow hairs.

The goal isn't to draw on a completely new eyebrow. It's to fill in the gaps and add hairs where they may no longer exist, while keeping the hairs you already have visible. This is one of my favorite approaches to natural-looking makeup: enhance what you have instead of trying to create something entirely different.

That's It. Go Get on With Your Day.

You don't need an elaborate brow routine, a drawer full of products or an extra 15 minutes every morning to have brows that look polished. A little product, a few strategically placed strokes and an understanding of your natural brow shape can go a long way.

And if you're still dealing with the aftermath of over-plucking in the '90s, welcome to the club. We may not get those hairs back, but at least we can stop letting our teenage beauty decisions dictate how long we spend in front of the mirror today.

Because good everyday makeup tips shouldn't require an entirely new morning schedule. They should help you figure out what works for your face, your preferences and the time you actually have.
